Using Virtual Reality, Professor Ahmed hopes to improve healthcare and access to surgery worldwide, especially to those in developing countries. People worldwide are suffering and dying from easily treatable conditions and only 5% of surgeries occur in these poor countries. Using google glass, snapchat and other technologies, Ahmed is working towards improving healthcare access.

The Shafi Ahmed Foundation International was recently launched with the hope of providing support to developing countries. It aims to produce future surgeons and democratise surgical education by reaching millions worldwide through digital technologies.
